WEEK 17 final animation

This week I will have completed all the animated renders, including the smoke, the look of the building as well as the shadows, and the rest of the broken vehicles around it.

final simulation

I layered the rendering inside houdini and set up different levels of lighting to make it easy for me to import into nuke and make changes. As well as I render the buildings separately from the smoke, which will help me to make different adjustments to the objects individually without having to re-render them all over again.

This part is simply merging the elements, as well as motion blurring the smoke, in order to make it easier to hand over to sakshi for final compositing, which is a more tedious task.

WEEK 18 final work

personal project(final version)
some of part process

About the mattepainting part of the process, documenting the whole process of making lens one, in the middle of which I faced many problems, fortunately all of them were solved, partly by referring to many tutorials on YouTube and b-site and partly by asking for Manos’s opinion, which is very important to me, and which makes it clear to me where my own shortcomings are, and thus how to rectify them.

WEEK 16 CRITICAL REPORT

How 3D Animated Films Integrate Eastern and Western Cultures: a Case Study of “Big Hero 6”

-Abstract
This article takes “The Incredibles”, a typical East-meets-West 3D animated movie, as an example to delve into the collision and hybridization of two different cultures, American and Japanese. Important factors such as visual elements and thematic values may affect the audience’s core feelings and cultural identity, and may make this multicultural movie face challenges in the market. Therefore, this paper further discusses how 3D animated films can better integrate the elements of Eastern and Western cultures.

Introduction
The technological development of three-dimensional animation has become an irreversible trend. When 3D animation technology is integrated into the field of movies, new art forms and different cultural concepts are created. This includes the dissemination and intermingling of different cultures through 3D animated movies as a carrier. However, the mechanisms and effects of 3D animation in cultural intermingling and change are subtly affecting people’s lives. For example, Xue Jiao, and Qi Pan (2012) claimed that the unique characteristics of the movie create an experience beyond our daily experience, which is not only perceivable in real life, but also enhances the power of communication. In this paper, we will use Big Hero 6 as an example to explore how 3D animated movies integrate Eastern and Western cultures. In the process of analyzing existing examples of 3D films, we will delve into the wide range of opportunities and potentials that 3D animated films offer in terms of cultural innovation and creativity.

WEEK 15 CRITICAL REPORT

By capturing and examining the graphic embodiment of cultural hybridization in this film, I will select some classic cases for specific analysis.

Wall paintings with traditional Japanese style, very Japanese hand-painted anime style.
This is a traditional Japanese competitive sport: sumo wrestling. It was developed based on the Shinto rituals of Japan’s inherent religion. This image clearly shows the legacy of Japanese Shinto culture and combines it with the Western image of Iron Man, creating a stark contrast that catches the viewer’s eye.
The spaceship has Chinese and Japanese fonts, as well as some Japanese graffiti elements.

WEEK 15 Thesis programme

I consulted Nigel this week and he said that I have a great topic, but there are many sentences in the essay that I need to find literature to support, including some arguments that need to be adequately referenced. So my next plan is to go and collect more material and references to record and refer to in my essay. Besides that, I also need to revise my introduction because I need to add some ideas to the paragraphs that fit my essay.

WEEK 14 critical report

The technological development of three-dimensional animation has become an irreversible trend. When three-dimensional animation technology is integrated into the field of movies, new art forms and different cultural concepts are created. This combination not only enriches the expression of the movie, but also promotes the integration and exchange of global culture. From the visual animation design as well as the music score, the collision and fusion of eastern and western cultural elements are demonstrated from various basic elements. As the audience’s demand for multicultural experiences increases, this combination will lead the future development of 3D animated movies.

When I searched for information on globalization and cultural integration, I found that with the acceleration of globalization, the audience’s interest in different cultural backgrounds is increasing. 3D animated movies have gone on to attract global audiences and expand their market coverage by integrating elements of Eastern and Western cultures. For example, the familiar Kung Fu Panda series has successfully integrated Chinese cultural elements into the Western narrative structure and gained popularity among global audiences.

This also made me decide to analyze the 3D animation film production market from the perspective of “technological advancement and innovation”: Based on the advancement of 3D animation technology, the production of films has become more detailed and realistic, and is able to present more colorful visual effects. This provides a broader expression space for the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, allowing traditional patterns and cultural elements to be perfectly reproduced through advanced technological means.

So I decided to take “big hero 6” as an example to analyze how 3D animation can be better integrated under the hybridization of Eastern and Western cultures to meet the needs of the mass market.
