About the mattepainting part of the process, documenting the whole process of making lens one, in the middle of which I faced many problems, fortunately all of them were solved, partly by referring to many tutorials on YouTube and b-site and partly by asking for Manos’s opinion, which is very important to me, and which makes it clear to me where my own shortcomings are, and thus how to rectify them.

WEEK 17 CRITICAL REPORT
This week I’ll be wrapping up, having completed the critical report and presentation.
WEEK 16 CRITICAL REPORT

How 3D Animated Films Integrate Eastern and Western Cultures: a Case Study of “Big Hero 6”
-Abstract
This article takes “The Incredibles”, a typical East-meets-West 3D animated movie, as an example to delve into the collision and hybridization of two different cultures, American and Japanese. Important factors such as visual elements and thematic values may affect the audience’s core feelings and cultural identity, and may make this multicultural movie face challenges in the market. Therefore, this paper further discusses how 3D animated films can better integrate the elements of Eastern and Western cultures.

Introduction
The technological development of three-dimensional animation has become an irreversible trend. When 3D animation technology is integrated into the field of movies, new art forms and different cultural concepts are created. This includes the dissemination and intermingling of different cultures through 3D animated movies as a carrier. However, the mechanisms and effects of 3D animation in cultural intermingling and change are subtly affecting people’s lives. For example, Xue Jiao, and Qi Pan (2012) claimed that the unique characteristics of the movie create an experience beyond our daily experience, which is not only perceivable in real life, but also enhances the power of communication. In this paper, we will use Big Hero 6 as an example to explore how 3D animated movies integrate Eastern and Western cultures. In the process of analyzing existing examples of 3D films, we will delve into the wide range of opportunities and potentials that 3D animated films offer in terms of cultural innovation and creativity.
WEEK 15 CRITICAL REPORT
By capturing and examining the graphic embodiment of cultural hybridization in this film, I will select some classic cases for specific analysis.

WEEK 15 Thesis programme
I consulted Nigel this week and he said that I have a great topic, but there are many sentences in the essay that I need to find literature to support, including some arguments that need to be adequately referenced. So my next plan is to go and collect more material and references to record and refer to in my essay. Besides that, I also need to revise my introduction because I need to add some ideas to the paragraphs that fit my essay.
WEEK 14 critical report
The technological development of three-dimensional animation has become an irreversible trend. When three-dimensional animation technology is integrated into the field of movies, new art forms and different cultural concepts are created. This combination not only enriches the expression of the movie, but also promotes the integration and exchange of global culture. From the visual animation design as well as the music score, the collision and fusion of eastern and western cultural elements are demonstrated from various basic elements. As the audience’s demand for multicultural experiences increases, this combination will lead the future development of 3D animated movies.
When I searched for information on globalization and cultural integration, I found that with the acceleration of globalization, the audience’s interest in different cultural backgrounds is increasing. 3D animated movies have gone on to attract global audiences and expand their market coverage by integrating elements of Eastern and Western cultures. For example, the familiar Kung Fu Panda series has successfully integrated Chinese cultural elements into the Western narrative structure and gained popularity among global audiences.

This also made me decide to analyze the 3D animation film production market from the perspective of “technological advancement and innovation”: Based on the advancement of 3D animation technology, the production of films has become more detailed and realistic, and is able to present more colorful visual effects. This provides a broader expression space for the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, allowing traditional patterns and cultural elements to be perfectly reproduced through advanced technological means.
So I decided to take “big hero 6” as an example to analyze how 3D animation can be better integrated under the hybridization of Eastern and Western cultures to meet the needs of the mass market.

WEEK 16 LONDON OF CITY IN NUKE
This is a very useful method about removing the edges of the clip.

If the material we’re using has edges like this, we can clean them up by using the “merge alpha” method.

We can still modify the background, for example, if the background of the clip is white, add constant. if the background of the clip is black (transparent) add luminance to improve the alpha.
WEEK 12 Rendering and testing
I try to take screens inside the houdini and it works for me. Because I can visualise the model collapsing before I render it. And I finally solved those problems I mentioned last week by re-tracking the camera and resetting the parameter smoke.

This allows for a more realistic reproduction of the smoke (debrissource)

WEEK 15 london of city in nuke
gonzalo set us up with a shot dealing with London destroying the city of London, firstly I needed to download some footage of explosions and smoke to create the feeling of destroying the city.

I tried to match the explosion to the window and make some black burnt marks. But not knowing how to delay the appearance of black when the flame explodes, gonzalo taught me to use the node “erode fast” which can turn the material into pixelation to add blur and change the colour.

The basic logic is: first create a noise and add a roto, then merge it with “erode fast”, and finally add a “copy” and an “idistort” to create a distortion effect.

On top of that, I need to create the ambient light around the explosion. Initially I used “curvetool” to do this, but the effect was very small and fake looking, so I also asked gonzalo and he taught me to use cornerpin instead, which was a very useful solution!

WEEK 13 fire and smoke IN NUKE
First, use Blur and Multiple and Cornerpin to create the light and shadow of the flame on the ground and the light and shadow on the glass.

Second, we need to make the background deformation when the flame writhes.

This step is to use roto to separate the parts that need to be twisted

curvetool: This node helps us make the flame flicker throughout the scene

Click on CurveTool, copy its data, create a Grade, and paste it onto it.

It must be remembered that if you want to modify the brightness, you need to go to edit expression to a certain number.
